Song of the Day! Urban Cone – Urban Photograph

Urban Cone - Urban Photograph

The Stockholm based Urban Cone doesn't mind if you take an Urban Photograph

The beauty of the track Urban Photograph lies in its simplicity and familiarity. A swift indie beat, a catchy keyboard melody and very complementing lyrics make up this head bopping tune. While the song is nothing too crazy or re-inventive for the genre, it is still for sure a worth while listen in today’s repetitive music market. If even just for that sweet sweet indie beat break down that makes up the last 40 seconds. Leave it to a Swedish band to make music that is perfectly marketable to the American indie music scene. It’s too bad Urban Cone has a very minimal amount of material released because I’d love to give an EP or full LP of theirs a listen. A little birdy told me that come October we should see some interesting tunes from these guys so I figure we’ll just check back in at that point. Until then go chill and read a book or something while bopping along to Urban Photograph.

Urban Cone may not have much to share but they at least have a nice music video for their wonderful track Urban Photograph. Check it.

Song of the Day! DOM – Living In America

DOM - Living In America

DOM help point out just how sexy it is to be Living In America.

Countless songs have been gnawing away at my brain for the past month or so and finally having a new computer I can get back to sharing the songs that I feel need to be heard. Driven by infectious electro beats, Living In America has been one of those very songs that refused to let my mind be at ease with a what I would call a unique chorus that just feels right to sing along to. DOM has created one of those songs where repetition is never an issue and you might even go as far as hitting the repeat button once (or even twice). What I’m trying to say is that Living In America never really loses its appeal and I’m rather surprised by the lack of hype around this Massachusetts indie pop band. I’m sure with the right spotlight these guys would blow up. There was a decent amount of buzz around the band’s debut EP Sun Bronzed Greek Gods, which features Living In America, but nothing too gripping. Having just released a new EP, Family of Love, the public will once again look at DOM to see if they have what it takes to keep to the high standards they’ve set for themselves. While there are some rather weak tracks on their new EP, I’d like to say that the other strong ones more then make up for it.

Here is the music video for Living In America. Well don’t they just look like they’re having a blast.

Song of the Day! Barton Fink – If You Know

If you know Barton Fink then you know they formed in Montreal, Canada

Electro-indie-funk-punk. Yes Barton Fink manages to encompass all these genres and more in their guitar and synth laced tunes. If You Know is an other worldly song with an off kilter beat and a warped array of instruments that do so much more then just grab your attention. Then add in that chorus line that sounds like someone forget to take their foot of the distortion pedal and you have a one of a kind memorable mix. While If You Know is featured on Barton Fink’s recent EP titled simply EP, one can only assume that the band is ready to drop another album since their debut Gear was released back in 2009. It would be really exciting if the band did announce plans for a new album since they are one of the most creative sounds I have heard in quite sometime. For now I’m going to back track and dwelve into the funk rock sounds of Gear and get my Barton Fink on!

Song of the Day! Capital Cities – Safe and Sound

Capital Cities help us feel safe and sound from LA, California

Houston, we have lift off. This electro pop foot tapper is ready to take you on a trip high into the atmosphere with its swift banger beats and steady stream of flowing synth. Hands down the best part about Safe and Sound would have to be that sexy sexy trumpet. That horn always comes in at the right moment and does wonders to keep this song fresh and a break from the run-of-the-mill indie electro tracks we encounter in today’s music. Capital Cities aren’t your average musical duo either, so don’t past these guys off as just another unknown because they’re building up quite the following, and rather quickly too. They just dropped their debut EP last week self-titled Capital Cities EP and let’s just say Safe and Sound isn’t the only song that will put some swagger in your step. The guys are nice enough to have the whole EP streaming on Soundcloud so go check it out.

Song of the Day! The Immigrant – Summer of Love (She Said)

The Immigrant help kick off the summer of love from Sydney, Australia

Music Video: The Immigrant – Summer Of Love (She Said)

Dare I say the phrase anthem of the summer? I’d hate to jump the gun with a statement like that but this song is just dripping in raw musical sex appeal. Summer Of Love (She Said) is the perfect electro banger to help make this summer as hot and melty as possible. The overlap of club bass and guitar hook here is impeccable and I could not be more on board with The Immigrant’s indie electronic infusion. The Immigrant help to further prove my theory that the best indie music acts around are coming straight out of Australia. I only wish that I could find more indie electro hits like this one from The Immigrant but it seems that they are a fairly new outfit with very little material out. If they can pull a single like this out of nowhere then you better believe that an EP from these guys has ridiculous amounts of potential. I have no choice but to keep my eyes and ears peeled for news of new material from the The Immigrant. Until then lets make this a summer of love!
