Song of the Day! Joywave – Golden State

Joywave discuss the Golden State from Rochester, New York, odd…

Vibrant indie rock that is right in sync with today’s progressive alternative music scene. Golden State is a like a nice sweet piece of indie music pie with just the right amount of everything inside. This crusty and delicious single has managed to earned a spot on my most played list of recent times. All baked good similes aside, Joywave’s music seems rather similar to music you might find the indie music market today, but still somehow maintains a unique sound of its own. I wish I knew more about Joywave but it seems that the band did not form until the very end of 2010 and can still be considered very new. One nice thing I found out it is that Joywave released an 11 track mixtape for free in March. If you’re interested in getting your hands on the mixtape titled 77777 then you can head over to Joywave’s website.

Song of the Day! Lettercamp – Denial Twist (White Stripes Cover)

Alright, so you find a pretty awesome cover of a song you really like by a band you love and your telling me it’s not getting posted to your music blog right away? Yeah right. Lettercamp bring us their electro pop take on The White Stripes 2005 single Denial Twist. I’d like to think that the results are pretty damn good and I have to give major props to Lettercamp for pulling off such a successful White Stripes cover. They succeed in turning a great alternative rock track into a pop music dance hit, which is no easy feat. Even if Lettercamp’s twist on Denial Twist isn’t your cup of tea you can at least respect the attempt put forward by this indie four-piece and recognize them for having the guts to take on such a monster track in the first place.

Song of the Day! The Submarines – Shoelaces

The Submarines drop Love Notes/Letter Bombs from LA, California

The Submarines make no attempt to hide their percussion pop from the world seeing as how they’ve been featured in numerous advertisements over the past couple years, the most notable of these being the use of You, Me, and the Bourgeoisie in an Iphone 3G commercial. But The Submarines can’t be blamed for writing music so catchy that Apple knows you’ll buy stuff just from listening to it, so no penalty should be held against them. Although the Submarines have been rather silent since they found moderate commercial success with their music, or at least that was the case until just earlier this month when The Submarines released their third studio album Love Note/Letter Bombs. Shoelaces is in fact the first track off of the newest album and in my opinion captures The Submarines’ signature sound best. Alternating beats and distorted guitar struts that all lay beneath a duo of lyrics make Shoelaces immediately recognizable as the work of The Submarines. After listening to Love Note/Letter Bombs a few times over I realized there is a bounty of indie pop to be heard and I would not be doing the band justice if I didn’t share at least one more track from the wonderful new album. Patience is your best friend with the track Fire, just let it build up then take off into indie bliss.

Song of the Day! Thomas Tantrum – Sleep

Thomas Tantrum stop our sleep from England

Thomas Tantrum waste no time in grabbing your attention with their latest single Sleep. The song does a good job in making sure your not going to sleep with its rapid keyboards and driving guitars. I’m so happy to see Thomas Tantrum finally putting out new material. I’ve been following these guys since the days of their first album Thomas Tantrum and have been a fan ever since.

Why The English Are Rubbish is one of their earlier tracks that got me interested in the band. It is now a personal favorite of mine with its whimsical percussion and simple shout along vocals.

It is very easy to hear how much the band has mature since their debut and I think we can expect big things from their upcoming album Mad By Moonlight which is not due for release until June 16th. We can also expect to see the release of another single in the meantime so I’ll be able to share more information on the new album when it gets closer to the release date.

Song of the Day! Metronomy – The Look

Metronomy bring us laid back electronic music from Devon, England

I’m going to slow things down a bit today and show off one of my favorite discoveries of recent times. Just the other month I came across the not so little band of Metronomy and their latest single The Look. The song just has that ambient chill pacing and a nice shuffle beat that keeps me in a relaxed state of mind. From what i’ve read into, this soft and casual electronic music style is only the norm for Metronomy and I’m perfectly down for some tranquil electro pop. I just so happens that today is the day Metronomy releases their new album The English Riviera in the United States, the UK saw a release last Tuesday. So if this song is closer to your musical taste and style then I’d highly recommend looking further into The English Riviera, I sure as hell know I’m going to.
