Top 10 Albums of 2011! #6 EUREKA

EUREKA! Mother Mother have struck gold with their brilliant brand of indie pop.

Kinda pressed for time today so I can’t really go as in depth as I’d like on why Mother Mother’s EUREKA is one of the best albums of the year. All I can say is take a listen below yourself and the reasons should become pretty self evident. The unique blend of pop and rock that Mother Mother bring this time around is nothing short of creative genius. From memorable lyrical hooks, insane falsetto vocals, and wonderful duets to soaring piano scores, gargantuan noodling, and thrashing guitars- EUREKA is a giant melting pot of indie delights. If your looking for something unique to add to your musical collection look no further then this masterly crafted album. Do yourself a favor and LISTEN TO THIS AMAZING ALBUM. You simply will not regret it.

EUREKA in its entirety provided for your listening pleasure from Soundcloud.

Song of the Day! Los Campesinos! – By Your Hand

Los Campesinos! - By Your Hand

Los Campesinos! give us the first taste of their 4th LP Hello Sadness from Cardiff, Wales

There are few bands out their that interlock themselves into my life emotionally, and Los Campesinos! just happens to be one them. For nearly four years now I have been infatuated with the band’s the amazingly heartfelt indie pop. So when it came down to it, I easily forked over the 12 Euros so I could pre-order the upcoming album Hello Sadness, which won’t see a release until November 14th. I’m so excited to hear how the band has evolved from 2007 to the year 2011. Every album has built upon the last in terms of style and passion, and believe me when I say the band’s debut album was chalk full of style and passion. Twas as twee as a band could be.

If By Your Hand is any indication of where the new album is venturing then I am so on board. It’s classic Los Campesinos! in that I can’t help but feel like they are trying to capture such a vast amount of emotion in such a small little track. Throw in a catchy chorus that makes your heart warm and fuzzy and we have a winner. I actually have a funny feeling that By You Hand isn’t even going to be a track the album is known for. I just know that somewhere in Hello Sadness lies a track that I could lyrically sync with my life and that when I hear it I will feel as though a little bit more of me is complete. Am I psychic? No. But able to predetermine Los Campesinos! new album being a success? Yes.

Check out the fun little video Los Campesinos! made to go along with the new track By Your Hand.

Song of the Day! DOM – Living In America

DOM - Living In America

DOM help point out just how sexy it is to be Living In America.

Countless songs have been gnawing away at my brain for the past month or so and finally having a new computer I can get back to sharing the songs that I feel need to be heard. Driven by infectious electro beats, Living In America has been one of those very songs that refused to let my mind be at ease with a what I would call a unique chorus that just feels right to sing along to. DOM has created one of those songs where repetition is never an issue and you might even go as far as hitting the repeat button once (or even twice). What I’m trying to say is that Living In America never really loses its appeal and I’m rather surprised by the lack of hype around this Massachusetts indie pop band. I’m sure with the right spotlight these guys would blow up. There was a decent amount of buzz around the band’s debut EP Sun Bronzed Greek Gods, which features Living In America, but nothing too gripping. Having just released a new EP, Family of Love, the public will once again look at DOM to see if they have what it takes to keep to the high standards they’ve set for themselves. While there are some rather weak tracks on their new EP, I’d like to say that the other strong ones more then make up for it.

Here is the music video for Living In America. Well don’t they just look like they’re having a blast.

Song of the Day! Cults – Never Heal Myself

Cults sunny and lo-fi pop comes from California

Ok, so I’m sure everyone is already very familiar with Cults song Go Outside by now, but how about the rest of the album? Cults released their self-titled album Cults earlier this month to a world ready to embrace xylophones and whimsical lo-fi vocals alike. The album carries on all the charm of Go Outside and more with a pretty much flawless track-listing. To highlight just one that stands out I’d have to give praise to the song Never Heal Myself. Again we find ourselves lured in and entranced by a simple percussion line of notes played on the xylophones. This time we get a taste of Cults back up guitars which lay over perfectly on top lead singer Madeline Follin’s delicate vocals. Cults simple throwback indie pop is what makes the band so special in my opinion. No band out there right now posses a sound quite like this (Ignore Best Coast) and for that I salute them. Cults have the summer time feel good indie lo-fi on lockdown and we have no choice but to bite and like.

Head over to Cults Facebook page and give them a like. What reason could you have not to?

Song of the Day! GIVERS – Up Up Up

GIVERS give us Up Up Up from Lafayette, Louisiana.

I kid you not when I say this Louisiana indie five-piece is poppin’ and poppin’ off now. Catch these kids while they are hot and fresh because they are going places fast. GIVERS unique blend of indie pop and freak folk fit perfectly into the trendy music scene that has been raging across the states as of late. Up Up Up is whimsical yet sophisticated at the same time with it’s wonderful array of percussion layered in with a multitude of vocal tracks and semi-disco beats. Honestly there is just too much going on here to be described in words and that rolls over just fine in my book. GIVERS just dropped their debut album In Light earlier this month and trust me when I say these guys (and gal) are not just a one hit wonder. In Light is teeming with life and blissful indie hits and is defiantly worth checking out. Now I’m going to sit back with a smile on my face as GIVERS deservingly blow up and get the exposure and attention that is rightfully theirs.

Don’t be shy! Hit up their Facebook and let them know just how awesome they are.
