Song of the Day! Death Cab For Cutie – You Are A Tourist

Death Cab For Cutie came together in Washington

Every time I hear that a new Death Cab For Cutie album is coming out I always get really excited and always a little worried. Death Cab For Cutie haven’t put out anything earth shattering since before Narrow Stairs so I think it’s fairly reasonable to have to some doubt that their newest album will exceed the high expectations the band sets for itself. Then I heard the single You Are A Tourist and I think this song is grounds to dismiss all doubt that their new album Codes and Keys will disappoint. There is a this new tone to Death Cab, it seems so familiar yet elusive and echos the style of Ben Gibbard’s reputable side project The Postal Service. If even half the tracks on the new album can get me as excited as this one then I will be ready to say for sure that Death Can For Cutie is back in business. Codes and Keys will be out this summer May 31.

Song of the Day! Adele – Rolling In the Deep

Adele gives us her signature soul out of Britain

[UPDATE: Adele grow way beyond the bounds of soundcloud so here is a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw]

Whoa! Move over Florence, Adele is here to claim her title as the best female British singer in today’s musical market. You can just feel the soul and passion flowing out of Adele as she belts out beautiful notes over foot stomping beats in Rolling In the Deep. This is the kind of song that has the ability to transcend genere and excite people of all walks of life. This stuff usually isn’t my cup of tea but after this glorious tune I’m down to see if all the hype is true for Adele’s latest album 21, which was released earlier in January. I hope songs like this will inspire more artist to look back at earlier genres, such as the blues and soul, to influence their future music.

Song of the Day! The Kissaway Trail – New Lipstick

The Kissaway Trail deliver indie bliss from Denmark

Nice upbeat ambiant indie pop, these are all adjectives I would use to describe the song New Lipstick. The build up brings you in and then it takes off like a hand-glider leaping from a cliff, slowly flying down as everything around you is breathtaking. Ok, so maybe I’m being a little over descriptive of the song, but it is just something that takes you by surprise. All I know about The Kissaway Trail is that they are from Denmark and that New Lipstick is on their 2010 album Sleep Mountain. If the rest of the tracks are as blissful as this one them I’m down for journey around Sleep Mountain.

Song of the Day! Kasabian – Where Did All The Love Go?

Kasabian bring us music from the UK

Youtube: Kasabian – Where Did All The Love Go?

I never really could understand how such an amazing band like Kasabian can go so unnoticed in the States. In 2009 these guys released the brilliant concept album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. The album received massive amounts of praise in Britain but is still relatively unknown in America. It actually defies all logic that such a large number of people are unexposed to a band like Kasabian. They do such a good job infusing rock and various electro styles that you’d think Americans would eat it right up. A raw and unprocessed sound, combined with sharp precise lyrics, helped to make West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum one of my absolute favorites of 2009. I really can’t tell you enough times that you should go check out this incredible british musical group.

Song of the Day! Kings of Leon – Pyro

The Kings Of Leon formed in Tennessee

I was really taken aback by King of Leons latest album Come Around Sundown. I did not expect to go track by track through the album and find a solid tune each time, but hey them Leons sure showed me. To be honest Come Around Sundown has easily become one of my favorite albums of 2010 and for me it beats Only By The Night as far as KOL albums go. An overall relaxed and laid back tone is present throughout Come Around Sundown, the perfect vibe for a nice easy going car ride or to just simply sit down and enjoy the mellow feeling. Pyro is a great example of what their latest album has to offer and I highly recommend you do yourself a favor and check out their other new songs.
