Song of the Day! TV On The Radio – Caffeinated Consciousness

Brooklyn based band TV On The Radio

Youtube: TV On The Radio – Caffeinated Consciousness

I’ve done my best to keep up with TV On The Radio since they truly broke out in 2006 with their hit Wolf Like Me. Two years after that point they release their third album Dear Science in 2008, which has taken till this past year to grow on me immensely. TV On The Radio have created a sound that they can call their own, which really helps them stand out from the other indie-alt genre bands that crave to have such a unique sound. Now we find ourselves two more years down the road into 2011 approaching their upcoming fourth album Nine Types of Light, which hits stores April 12th. If Caffeinated Consciousness can be used as an indicator to predict what the upcoming album will be like then I can not wait to hear the other crazy upbeat grungy tunes they have cooked up for us.

Song of the Day! Vampire Weekend – Giant

Last year Vampire Weekend gave the world Contra and I believe everyone took it with open arms seeing as how it debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. Personally Contra is an album that I enjoy listening to each and every time and was defiantly high on my best of 2010 list. The world music style they imposed in the album was just so pleasant to hear and the sheer amount of singles on it also added to the enjoyment. This song is an awesome bonus track not released on the main album. I believe it was made available only to Itunes purchasers, but as the way the internet food chain works now-a-days it has made itself available to everyone.

Song of the Day! Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks

Foster the People pump up the kicks from LA, California

I have no idea why I have put off posting this song so long. It was actually brought to my attention that it is the most played song in my Itunes library. I guess I must have found myself clicking it time after time because it’s just that damn good. Foster the People released a short EP in January which featured Pumped Up Kicks. I’m excited to hear that they are set to drop their debut album Torches on the 24th of May.

Song of the Day! The Joy Formidable – Popinjay

The Joy Formidable are a little band, with anything but a litte sound, from Northern Whales. I’ve been all about these guys since they dropped their EP A Ballon Called Moaning in early 2009. I have also eagerly been waiting for a follow up and now the wait is finally over. Their new and debut album The Big Roar came out earlier this week in the US and it is way up top on my list of CDs to acquire. There is just something inspiring about the intensity behind The Joy Formidable and I can’t help but love their lead singer Ritzy with her commanding vocals. I am just waiting for these guys to blow up more in the States.

Song of the Day! Fight Like Apes – Battlestations

Happy St. Patricks Day! And what better way to celebrate this green holiday then with my favorite Irish band, Fight Like Apes! Fight Like Apes are noisy, stuck up, in your face, and they don’t give fuck about it all. Don’t believe me? Just look up the name of some of their songs. This is just the attitude I’m looking for in my Irish rock bands, along with good music of course. Battlestations is perhaps my favorite track off of their debut album Fight Like Apes And The Mystery Of The Golden Medallion, which came out late 2008.
